Nestled originally in Sag Harbor, a proud East Hampton house found its new home decades ago on the grounds of the Stella Maris school. This venerable building, now in a different setting, underwent a thoughtful transformation to enhance its charm and functionality in its current location. While maintaining its historic integrity, significant refinements were delicately applied to ensure it harmonized seamlessly with its surroundings.

Situated atop the highest point of the property, the house, complete with an added wing, had, over time, acquired a somewhat austere appearance, seeming somewhat aloof in its interaction with visitors and the landscape. A renewed connection was forged to rectify this by creating a welcoming, level space at the front entrance. This area was thoughtfully crafted with a fieldstone retaining wall, gracefully linking it to the expansive lawn below via stone steps. Additionally, to ensure privacy and tranquility, the front area was shielded from the nearby road with lush, shade-tolerant plantings that are also resistant to deer.

The transformation did not stop there; the rear yard underwent a complete reconfiguration to accommodate new features designed to enrich outdoor living. A meticulously planned layout now includes a refreshing pool, an inviting pergola for shaded relaxation, and ample space for al fresco dining. These additions not only enhance the property’s functionality but also create a captivating outdoor environment that seamlessly integrates with the house’s historic charm.

Overall, through careful refinements and strategic landscaping, the East Hampton house, now gracefully settled in its new location, has regained its rightful place as a cherished landmark. Its renewed presence exudes historical significance and modern livability, offering a testament to thoughtful architectural adaptation and landscape design.
