Inspired by pioneering 20th-century landscape architects such as Thomas Church, Dan Kiley, and A.E. Bye, Derrig creates harmonious landscapes that reflect close collaboration with his clients.
Derrig earned his Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from Rutgers University, graduating cum laude in 1986. Before joining Kelly Varnell, a prominent Manhattan landscape architecture firm, his early career included shaping environments in ballparks, zoos, and college campuses. Captivated by the natural allure of the Hamptons, he settled in Sag Harbor. Under his leadership, Landscape Details has grown from a team of three landscaping experts to a workforce of 100 skilled craftsmen specializing in maintenance, design, and installation.
A member of the American Society of Landscape Architects for 28 years, Michael resides in East Hampton Village and actively supports local institutions like Guild Hall and Madoo.
